The 2021 Australian Financial Review’s Young Rich List has set a record with 15 women on the list, the highest number to date.
Topping the list is Canva co-founder Melanie Perkins, alongside her husband and business partner Cliff Obrecht.
Rounding it out at number 100 is Keep It Cleaner founder Stephanie Miller – and she’s not the only influencer making bank with workouts. SWEAT founder Kayla Itsines, plus fitness gurus Emily Skye Anderson and Tammy Hembrow all feature. And the wellness industry shows no signs of slowing. Jessica Sepel shares rank with husband Dean Steingold at number 24, thanks to their blockbuster vitamin range JSHealth.
The other major money win for female moguls is the fashion space. Australian fashion heavyweights including Jennifer Hawkins, worth $72 million, and supermodel and KORA Organics founder Miranda Kerr, with a $124 million fortune, both make reappearances, as does Showpo founder Jane Lu. Monday Swimwear’s Natasha Oakley makes her debut this year at number 71.
With tennis champion Ash Barty representing the sporting arena and actor and producer Margot Robbie bringing a touch of Hollywood to the list, perhaps it’s time to put the tired ‘influencer’ stereotypes to bed – or more accurately, to bank.
