Did you know it will take 217 years to close the gender pay gap?
Contrary to all the progress being made, women’s careers are still progressing slower than men’s. As the world’s leading career network for women, we’re on a mission to change this.
What’s more, 82% of men have had a mentor, compared to just 69% of women. With stats like these, it’s no coincidence that women’s careers often take the back seat.
In a recent study, it was discovered that those who participate in mentorships are promoted at least five times more than those who don’t. So, we’ve taken matters into our own hands – to take charge and be the change we want to see within the workplace. Enter: AllBright Mentor Matching.
What is Mentor Matching?
Mentor Matching is an algorithm-based mentorship tool, designed to make finding the perfect mentor or mentee easy.
How do I find a mentor or mentee on the AllBright platform?
If you haven’t already, subscribe to AllBright Digital. Then, navigate to your Connect tab where you'll be able to see the option for Mentor Matching and follow our step-by-step guide to setting up your profile. As soon as you’ve told us the key skills you want to teach or learn, we’ll start the matching process!
How do you match mentors and mentees?
Mentor Matching is AllBright-guided but self-directed. Our algorithm-based tool will suggest some mentor and mentee profiles that could be a good match for you based on the answers in your profile. The better your profile, the better your match – so, be thorough!
How long does the mentorship process take from start to finish?
We recommend structuring your mentorship around three sessions and holding one per month, making it a three-month-long experience. However, you can agree between yourselves on how many sessions suit you both and how frequently you would like to meet.
If you want to continue your mentor-mentee relationship outside of Mentor Matching, please feel free to do so. However, we are not liable for any communication that takes place outside of the AllBright platform. Alternatively, once your mentorship has ended, you can start a new one through the Mentor Matching tool in our platform. Please read our T&Cs for more information on how you are protected.
Are there any ground rules?
We recommend setting some ground rules with your mentor or mentee before you start your mentorship journey. From managing expectations on how much time you want to dedicate to setting boundaries on the best way to communicate between meetings, check out our Mentor Matching Ground Rules article for tips on how to get the most out of this experience.
Do I need any qualifications or to be at a certain level to be a mentor?
Not at all! Mentor Matching is for all ages and stages. We all have something to bring to the table and teach one another.
Do you have any resources for being a good mentor or mentee?
We’re glad you asked! With your AllBright Plus membership, you get access to 170+ online courses from our Academy. Check out our 8 Steps to Being a Good Mentor or Mentee, which lists some of our favourite courses to help you make the most of your mentorship journey.
I'm a mentor, what should I prepare for my first session?
A mentorship can be a life-changing experience, so it's normal to feel apprehensive about your first session. If you want some guidance on how to structure your first session, we’ve got you. Read A Mentor's Guide to Smashing Your First Mentoring Session – and good luck!
What does it cost?
Mentor Matching is included with your AllBright Digital membership. This starts at just £8.33 per month and you can choose to pay monthly or yearly. Select your AllBright Digital membership payment plan here.
Do I get paid as a mentor or do I pay as a mentee?
Becoming a mentor or mentee with Mentor Matching is voluntary and there should be no payment made outside of the platform.
Whilst we support all women’s businesses, this tool cannot be used as a sales opportunity. If you think someone is breaking our community guidelines, please let us know.
How will I know if someone accepts my mentorship request?
If someone requests you as their mentor or mentee, you’ll be notified by email and via a notification in the platform.
How many mentors or mentees can I have at one time?
To ensure you get the best experience out of Mentor Matching, you can only have up to three mentor and/or mentee at once.
What do I do if all my recommended mentors are already mentoring?
Your recommended mentors will refresh once a day in line with each mentor’s real-time availability and to keep up with our growing mentor base. So, don’t worry – your perfect match is out there!
What happens if I don’t hear from someone I’ve sent a mentor request to?
If your request isn’t accepted after 10 days, that person may not be able to accept your mentorship right now. During this time, you’ll still be able to request someone else.
What do I do if my mentee or mentor isn’t showing up to our sessions or answering my messages?
If your mentor or mentee isn’t respecting the ground rules of your mentorship, please get in touch with us via our contact form. In the meantime, feel free to end the mentorship early and make a new request.
The safety of our sisterhood is important to us. So, please let us know if anyone is exhibiting any behaviour that goes against our community guidelines.
How do I end my mentorship early if necessary?
We get it, sometimes things just don’t work out. Maybe you can no longer give your time to a mentorship, or maybe your mentor or mentee isn’t the right match for you. If you find yourself in this situation, rest assured you have the option to end the mentorship early. Just click ‘end my mentorship’ in the Active Mentorships section of your profile and fill out your feedback form. Your mentor or mentee will then be notified via email.
Can I credit myself as an AllBright Mentor or AllBright Mentee?
Absolutely! Sharing your skills with the sisterhood is certainly something to shout about. Please feel free to add 'Mentor (or Mentee) with AllBright Mentor Matching' to your LinkedIn, CV, and wherever else you want.
